Ease Of Installation-TX-NR609 is an excellent mid range very economical A/V receiver.Firstly, I am not used to setting up complex installations. Thanks to the easy installation procedure. It hardly took me 15 minutes to finish the complete installation. It only took one configuration change in the unit for a device which does not have an HDMI output and had to be connected via component video and stereo audio . I easily connected my media player, HTPC and cable box..
Six HDMI Inputs— I wanted to upgrade my receiver from a non HDMI to HDMI. TX-NR609 has six HDMI Inputs including one on the front panel—provide support for 3D video and ultra-high resolution display technology. HDMI also carries master-quality audio formats from Dolby and DTS, as well as the expanded surround sound of Audyssey DS and Dolby Pro Logic IIz.It has all the standard HDMI 1.4 features such as HDMI stand by pass-through, 3D, Audio Return Channel.The HDMI switching is very smooth and fluid and takes no time at all.
Cooling System- It seems like Onkyo finally heard the complaints of the previous buyers and provided with an excellent cooling system at the top of TX-NR609 receiver. It runs very smooth without any noise. You may even sometimes suspect that the cooling system is not running at all because of such a low noise.
Great Audio and Video Up Conversion- TX-NR609 provides superb audio and video quality. The moment I plugged it in I was blown away by the fantastic sound. You can hardly find any glitch in the sound quality. The 2EQ does an excellent job of calibrating the subwoofer volume.Also I tried my my video games on PS3 and blue-ray movies and the sound quality was excellent.
Earlier I had a standalone DVD player with 1080 up conversion and also a PS3 of same definition. I compared the video quality of both with TX-NR609 receiver and as expected this onkyo receiver stole the show.
Easy Upgrade- Onkyo TX-NR609 provides easy upgradation of firmware via Internet. TX-NR609 has great networking. I did a firmware update and it took just 45 minutes.You can easily upgrade to remove any bugs you might face.I don not think networking is an issue with TX-NR609 receiver.

The on screen display lets you see exactly what is playing. As the audio signals are transported in digital form, rather than analog, there is much less chance for signal degradation. It also incorporates Onkyo’s exclusive Advanced Music Optimizer to compensate for lost bit information and improve the quality of compressed audio signals.
The PC-IN feature of TX-NR609 allows you to connect your notebook or mediacenter to your Onkyo A/V receiver and watch your movie files on a flat screen.
TX-NR609 isTHX Certified- Onkyo TX-NR609 is THX certified. While reading Onkyo’s specification I found that THX Select2 Plus certification is specified for rooms where the screen to-seat-viewing distance is 10 to 12 feet and the room volume is around 2000 cubic feet. I cant actually tell how the movie soundtrack is originally recorded but TX-NR609 receiver provides great audio and video quality for all my files.
Easy Navigation- TX-NR609 receiver provides a basic and very easy to navigate remote control.The On Screen Display(OSD) feature provides an easy means to change the A/V receiver’s settings.The home button sets up the on screen menu overlaid on the image you are watching and hence no switching back and forth from a black screen background.

Things I did not like About the TX-NR609- The iPhone app of TX-NR609 is little basic but you need not worry as you can control all basic requirements.I can control Pandora, the input, and the volume and many other awesome features. So at this price you will not be disappointed.
Initially you might feel that running the setup a bit complex but once you go through manual and understand the layout it is a piece of cake.
Note that TX-NR609 receiver’s HDMI is not turned on by default. You need to turn it on by going into the hardware setup.
One of my friends told me that while flipping inputs a couple of times his center channel went silent but a simple click to another input and then back fixed it.
Conclusion for TX-NR609

Is TX-NR609 worth the money?
The Onkyo TX-NR609 I think offers excellent value for money especially and did I mention the picture is awesome. There has been many Onkyo’s versions but I think this is the best till date.
